("Cohort Education," "we," "us," or "our") operates the website cohorteducation.org, the Reader Meter mobile application (available on the Apple App Store), and related services. Information We Collect

We collect information that you provide directly to us when you register for our tutoring services. This includes:

  • Student information: name, date of birth, current grade, school name, school district, and details about literacy level and learning needs
  • Parent/guardian information: name, relationship to student, email address, phone number, and preferred contact method
  • Tutoring preferences: scheduling availability, session length, frequency, and in-person or virtual preference
  • Media release preferences: your choices regarding authorization of photos, video, testimonials, and related media use
  • Account information: email address and name (if you create an account on our platform)
  • Donation information: if you make a donation through our website, payment processing is handled by Stripe. We do not store your credit card or payment details on our servers

Reader Meter App

Our Reader Meter mobile app is designed for educators to conduct informal reading assessments. The app collects the following information:

  • Camera access: the app uses your device's camera to photograph reading passages for optical character recognition (OCR). Images are processed for text extraction and are not saved to your photo library or shared with third parties
  • Student reading data: student names, reading assessment results (words read, accuracy, timing), and passage text are stored locally on your device and synced to your Cohort Education account when connected to the internet
  • Account authentication: the app requires a Cohort Education account to sync data across devices

How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

  • To provide and manage our literacy tutoring services, including matching students with tutors and scheduling sessions

Student data entered into the Reader Meter app (such as student names and reading assessment results) is entered by educators and is used solely for educational assessment purposes. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children under the age of 13 without parental consent.
